2nd Birthday

Although I celebrated my birthday two days ago, for some reason, some chinese students felt that I needed another party. More students showed up to this party because they thought that yesterday was my birthday. More presents and more cake. I had four cakes last night. Too much!

Birthday

During the daytime yesterday, we taught a few classes and played games with the students. During the night, we went out to eat for my birthday. Wonderful Ms. Adams paid for the birthday meal. The meal consisted of noodles because everyone in our group enjoyed noodles. We also invited a few chinese students to come with us.

When our group arrived back at the school, a teacher named Yuki and I walked up to my dorm (5 stories up).  On the second floor I was surprised by some of the students with a birthday cake. It was awesome. The cake tasted amazing but the strange thing about therir cake is that they put fruits and vegetables on it. I had a cake with tomatoes on the icing.

When we were almost finished eating our cake a food fight broke out. Cake was every where and the students and I were covered. I looked like Santa Claus because they put cake all over my beard. That night was so fun.

Days at the High School

So when we first arrived at the high school, we were greeted with cheers and chinese students yelling "hello." So many people ran up to us to take our picture. Girls run up to me and shyly take a picture with me, just to run away giggling after the picture is taken. We are really like stars here.

When we taught two classes, we spoke about holidays and played many games. Although the teaching was really fun, my favorite part was when our group and a few high school students were able to enjoy the comfort of a students home. The families made amazing food and we drank incredible tea. I sat a while with one of the fathers of a student and we drank "old men tea."

On one of our free days, we went to a hot spring. That day was kind of rainy but we had no idea what was in store. When we were swimming in the steaming water, much rain was pouring on our heads and we found out that there was a hurricane...so we kept on swimming. While driving home, our bus got stuck in the flooding street. The bus chugged along as far as it could go until we had to walk to the school. The street was flooded and I had a huge cut on my foot from basketball. Zhang Feng had to carry me on his back, through the deep water, all the way across the street. It was very exciting.

Today we walked down the street to a type of barber shop. We had our hair washed, which took about 30 minutes, and then we got a full body massage, that took around 30 minutes also. It only cost us 20 yuan ($3). This place is amazing!

I am going to China

The day is finally here. We leave Friday for the longest trip of my life. I am too excited. I have been packing all of my clothes and buying a bunch of stuff. It is extremely exciting and I cannot wait until we arrive in Hong Kong. The plane ride will be worth it.
